Mission Statement

OUR BELIEFS AND OBJECTIVES

  • We believe that German Shepherd dogs are a special breed of dog due to their intelligence and character; they need and deserve special treatment, care and attention.

  • Every German Shepherd dog who comes to us is WELCOME and will be welcomed.  If we are suffering pressure from workload or lack of resources we remind ourselves that this is not the fault of this German Shepherd dog.

  • We will at all times take the greatest care for the security of the dogs whilst they are with us.

  • Each German Shepherd dog will remain with us long enough for us to get to know his character and ways, so as to place him in a home well-suited to him and his new keeper.

  • Careful matching of the home to the dog is our byword.  We will not home a German Shepherd dog where we have a lurking doubt about the suitability of the home for the dog, or the dog for the home.  Even if we are under pressure from lack of available homes or other resources, we will not place the dog in an unsuitable home.

  • For the owner who finds himself unable to keep his dog, and concerned about the dog's future, we wish to provide safe hands in which to place the German Shepherd dog, so that the owner feels they can place their trust in us, relying on our expertise, experience and dedication to find the best possible home for their friend.

  • We are not in the business of selling German Shepherd dogs.  We believe the danger of requiring a minimum donation for a particular dog is that it will go to a home which can afford to pay, instead of simply to the best home we can find.

  • We will help the new keeper and all keepers of German Shepherd dogs by supplying information about the breed and their training and care.

  • We will encourage keepers to undertake training with their dog and to recognise that the German Shepherd dog is a working breed with a need for some satisfying activity.

  • We never euthanase a dog except on the advice of a veterinary surgeon.

  • We will work towards a system of better control of breeders.  We will aim to instill a greater sense of responsibility in all those who contemplate breeding.

In forming the association our original concern was to help the German Shepherd dog: we have come to realise that in giving of our time and effort to help these animals we are also doing something for the benefit of human beings.  These beautiful animals bring to responsible keepers companionship, an incentive to healthy exercise, pleasure and fun.
The German Shepherd dog enriches the lives of many people
